Dear friend,

As 2023 draws to a close, I want to say a big thank you for your support and to celebrate five highlights of what we have achieved together in our campaigns.
1. You stood with Zambian campaigners and demanded a new law to cancel the debt
Financial giants like BlackRock, that hold millions of dollars in Zambian debt, continue to keep the country in a choke hold - so alongside Zambian campaigners, we amped up the campaign this year by calling for a new law to stop these banks acting like cowboys ([link removed]) . It's a tough environment but you’ve managed to get the attention of politicians and build support for a new law to get debts cancelled.
2. You challenged the cost of living crisis in the UK by campaigning to #EndEnergyDebt

6.4 million of us are in energy debt here in the UK. But we’ve been raising the alarm. Together with our friends at 38 degrees and the Warm This Winter campaign we handed in a petition ([link removed]) signed by over 100,000 of us, calling on the government #EndEnergyDebt.
3. You helped us put on our first ever art exhibition

This year we held our first ever exhibition ([link removed]) on the legacy of colonialism and its links to today's lower income country debt crisis. Together we spread the word about the historical roots of the debt crisis and why it’s so crucial we win debt cancellation.
4. You made your voices heard to ‘Cancel the Debt for Climate Justice’

Lower-income countries are the least responsible for climate breakdown and yet they are experiencing its harshest and most destructive effects, while also being forced into debt because of it.

You helped us take that message loud and clear to COP28 in Dubai. Thousands of you signed petitions demanding debt cancellation for climate justice and hundreds sent in messages that we projected on parliament.
5. Campaigning locally to get debts cancelled

From getting £300,000 of school meal debt cancelled in Glasgow, to putting the brakes on bailiff visits in Manchester. Our local Together Against Debt Groups have made some great progress this year.

I'm also really happy to be able to say that our community came together to raise an incredible £68,000 through this year's Big Give Christmas Challenge. None of this would be possible without your support, and every donation goes directly to campaigning against unjust debt.

Although people in our local communities and in lower income countries continue to experience exploitation, poverty and hardship created by debt crises, I am heartened to know that your support and passion helps build collective power in solidarity with affected communities. Every action you take and every donation you give helps us get one step closer to winning debt justice both at home and globally.

Thank you so much for your continued support, we couldn’t have done any of this without you and I look forward to campaigning alongside you in 2024!

I wish you and your family all the very best in the new year.
