ALBUQUERQUE CITY COUNCIL EXPANDS EMERGENCY POWERS OF MAYOR
Last night Albuquerque's Democrat-led City Council granted Mayor Keller more emergency powers during this Coronavirus pandemic. By a vote of 6-3, Council allowed Keller to declare a public health emergency for up to seven days and gave him the ability to prohibit mass assemblies, close daycares and preschools and relocate city staff. Council also approved $1 million for the city to use to fight the virus. All three Republicans on the Council voted against the measure.
“I voted against the bill because it gives the Mayor too much power, said Trudy Jones. "He can’t just assume more powers. We can’t allow the Mayor to do things that are, in fact, in the hands of City Council.”

REPUBLICAN PARTY ANNOUNCES EXCITING SLATE OF LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATES TO WIN THE ROUNDHOUSE THIS NOVEMBER
Republican Party Chairman Steve Pearce, Legislative leaders Jim Townsend and Rod Montoya and Sen. Craig Brandt unveiled a new slate of legislative candidates this past week with a mission to claim the Roundhouse this fall. Chairman Pearce introduced the highly qualified, diverse and energized candidates as a group who will stop the progressive agenda in Santa Fe, demonstrate fiscal responsibility and protect the rights of New Mexicans. The Party will have legislative candidates in a record 101 races. The slate includes 47 candidates in 41 Senate races, and 66 candidates in 60 House races. It includes 46 women, African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics and foster parents.
"We are in the process of reclaiming the spirit of New Mexico," said Chairman Pearce. "This group is here to tell you that it's not too late for New Mexico. We're going to change the way things are done in the legislature, and we are going to revitalize this state with passing good, sensible laws, protecting the rights of our citizens and promoting strong Republican values. These candidates will make a difference and turn the Legislature red. We will achieve this with vision, hard work and doing what's right for our citizens."
The strength, diversity and unity of the Party's candidates received national attention the next day:

GOV. LUJAN GRISHAM SIGNS BUDGET WHILING CUTTING KEY PROJECTS
Gov. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed a $7.6 billion state budget, while vetoing $150 million for projects around New Mexico. The budget is a 7.5% increase over the current year, with 45% of all new spending going toward education. It's the second year in a row that the Majority has increased spending without considering possible ramifications if the oil industry slows down. The recent downfall in prices could badly hurt the state's revenues.
"All through the legislative process this year we told the governor 'slow down. You need more reserves. The oil business is too cyclical,'" said House Minority Leader Rep. Jim Townsend. Townsend and Republican leaders have warned progressive Democrats to control spending.
What's more, Lujan Grisham cut $50 million targeted for needed infrastructure from the budget so she could continue to send California money in movie subsidies. Where's the responsibility at the Roundhouse?

I am an overcomer of obstacles, a husband and father, a businessman, and a lawyer.
New Mexico was not my first home, but the Land of Enchantment is where I chose to get married, raise my kids, and start my business. I love this state and together with my wife Jodi, we are raising our children, Bella, Tristen, Lilly, and Addyson, here in New Mexico.

New Mexico has always been my home. I was born and raised here. My family has deep roots in our state and takes every opportunity to give back to the community that gave us so much.
While earning a Master's Degree in Public Affairs, I also had the opportunity to serve on the Board of Regents at New Mexico Highlands University. Then, working as a policy analyst in the Office of the Governor gave me an in-depth look at how our state government functions – and sometimes doesn't function. Through my experience in public outreach, I have helped provide English dictionaries to refugees, hundreds of backpacks to children, and fostered ongoing partnerships between the oil and gas industry and local nonprofits. I've watched the political dysfunction in Santa Fe – and I decided the time to act is now. Our students can thrive, our economy can soar, and our communities can be safe and bright – but not with the same old ideas and worn out approaches.

Like many in our state I was raised in a rural community where most made their living in farming and manufacturing. And like many in New Mexico, I was raised in a Democratic household – my father was a social worker (and WW veteran) and my mother was a stay-at-home mom.
Those were different days and the Democratic Party was not the party it has become today. Unlike many, it was my college experience that brought me into the Republican Party. I worked FT through 3 college degrees, the later 2 while we raised our family.
I understand the work, commitment and grit that it takes to succeed in both business and education. My background includes teaching, school leadership, coaching, athletic director, church member and a longtime officer in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary (a part of Homeland Security) – which I joined shortly after 9/11. I am a fiscal and social conservative.
As a former small business owner and experienced school leader, I know we can do better for the people and children of our state. I look forward to representing Dona Ana County in Santa Fe.
