Welcome to our quarterly newsletter - this time we’re highlighting our community-based programs and campaigns from July to September. 

 

In the last quarter alone, we united a labor-trafficked survivor with his family and also started holding weekly TPS legal clinics with partner organizations at Adhikaar’s community center. To learn more about our work and accomplishments, please check out the newsletter below.

 

In November, Adhikaar began offering weekly free TPS legal clinics with Nepali and Tibetan interpretation at our community and worker center in Queens, New York. As many of our community members work in low-income industries and have limited English proficiency. Having a language and culturally competent service helps our community members to navigate and understand the complexities of their cases in the language they are comfortable with. [Read more…]

In response to the demands of our Domestic worker members, Adhikaar began offering a new series of two-day “We Rise” newborn training for our members in partnership with The Worker Institute at Cornell University, and the National Domestic Workers Alliance. [Read more…]

In New Jersey, we’re in the heat of a campaign to pass the historic NJ Domestic Workers Bill of Rights. Our staff and members, along with NJ Domestic Worker coalition partners, have been meeting elected official offices to urge them to put the bill for the vote and pass the legislation before the end of this year. In September, we celebrated all of our New York Nail Salon Worker Beauty School licensing course graduates from the last 10 batches. [Read more…]
