Main Plaza has been a center of San Antonio?s civic life since the 18th century. Its hundreds of years of architecture include governmental, commercial, and religious buildings, one of which is San Fernando Cathedral. Established in 1731, the cathedral is an active place of worship and hosts community events such as celebrations of Las Posadas each December. Find a historic place near you using our Atlas.

Applications are open now for the 2024 Preservation Scholars cohort! Register for Real Places 2024

The premier historic preservation and heritage tourism conference in the Lone Star State, Real Places 2024 is presented by the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission in partnership with Phoenix I Restoration and Construction, LLC. It will take place April 3-5 both online and at the?Renaissance Austin?Hotel.
