Wichita State University (WSU) has requested KCDHH's assistance in getting the word out about? a new program and position at Wichita State University:

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Wichita State University is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track position in American Sign Language (ASL) at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2024. This position will also serve as the Director of the new ASL degree program. The position involves engaging in scholarly activity; teaching three courses per semester at the undergraduate level and accommodating a variety of learning styles in instructional delivery including online and blended learning; working with colleagues, advising students; and serving the department, the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the university, and the community.

Minimum Education: PhD in American Sign Language or related field

Minimum Experience Demonstrated teaching excellence

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Native or near-native proficiency in American Sign Language
Ability to recruit and retain students as majors and minors in ASL
Willingness to work with our team on activities beyond the classroom
Ability to lead in the development of the ASL degree program
Willingness to accommodate a variety of learning styles and strategies in instructional delivery and learning activities, including online and blended learning, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches

Community of Practice Webinar Series
Work-Based Learning and Work Experiences: Designing Optimal Transition Services

Wednesday, January 10, 2024, 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET

The National Employment First Community of Practice (CoP) Webinar Series augments the technical assistance areas of Employment First systems change (Capacity Building, Provider Transformation, School-to-Work Transition, Employer Engagement, and Policy/Funding Alignment). CoP participants benefit from national subject matter experts (SMEs) presenting information and resources to support Employment First efforts.

The January edition of the Monthly Employment First Community of Practice will focus on the need for providers offering Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) programs to have services offerings that appeal to younger job seekers and transitioning youth. This session will highlight how successful programs have developed services that support efforts for youth to more effectively gain work experiences and jobs in the community. Presenters will discuss why they found it necessary to focus on youth, the types of partnerships and services they needed to develop, and why those services were different than prior programmatic offerings.

Webinar Objectives:
? Understand available resources and strategies to support youth-oriented employment programs.
? Learn the importance and different types of work experiences available for younger job seekers
? Discuss how to involve families and jobseekers in decisions about choosing the best transitioning youth program.
? Hear from a provider who successfully orients CIE employment services to younger jobseekers.

Dale Verstegen
Lead Subject Matter Expert

Dale provides training in the areas of provider transformation, performance management, and employer and job development. He has developed curriculum and provided training on supported and customized employment for a wide range of state agencies and providers. He has provided TA and coordinated statewide networks on provider transformation and organizational change.

Dale currently serves as the Lead Subject Matter Expert for The Arc on behalf of ODEP?s National Expansion of Employment Opportunities Network (NEON) program. In his capacity he works closely with national staff from The Arc to identify local providers who seek support with strategic goals pertaining to Employment First practices on a national level. As a technical Subject Matter Expert, Dale both oversees the activities of more than a dozen chapters of The Arc participating in NEON, and provides Training and Technical Support, administers self-assessments, and helps write transformation plans for local chapters in Florida, Maryland, Louisiana, Indiana, California, New York, and Illinois.

Kathleen Border
CEO, Ridge Area Arc

Kathleen is an experienced executive with a history of leadership in the healthcare, nonprofit, and social services arenas. Kathleen is skilled in Medicaid, Team Building, Health Information Exchange, Managed Care, project management, grant writing and nonprofit management. She is a servant leader with a Bachelor's degree focused in Journalism from the University of Florida.

Kathleen has dedicated her career to helping the communities where they live, work, and play. She currently serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families through creativity and collaboration in her role as the Chief Executive Officer at Ridge Area Arc.
