Dear John,
This year proved it: our state’s leaders have eagerly embraced authoritarianism. Their flagrant disregard for democracy was evident, both during the regular legislative session and the four special sessions that followed.
We will be grappling with losses from the regular legislative session for years to come—a ban on lifesaving gender-affirming care for transgender youth, violations of religious freedom as well as church and state separation, educational censorship, attacks on our voting rights, and more.
Overwhelming us is their mission, but we cannot let them win.

In the face of the far-right’s attacks, we created community and joy, our radical acts of resistance. Thousands of advocates, community members, clergy, congregants, young Texans, and allies flocked to the Capitol each time we called on them; lobbying elected officials; advocating at sing-ins, rallies, and press conferences; testifying; and dropping cards.
For almost 30 years, Texas Freedom Network has been the watchdog of the religious right—fighting for our neighborhood public schools, defending religious freedom, and promoting equality and social justice for all.
As we close out 2023, I want to thank our supporters for making our vital work possible. You are the people we do this work for, and you are the people we cannot do it without.
With gratitude,
