It's been another busy week in TX-23 and D.C. I am proud to serve our district in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. From helping you navigate federal casework to advocating for your priorities, my team and I are always here to help. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23. Strengthening our Nation's Military To watch Congressman Gonzales' announcement on the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, click here or the video above. Delivering for our Servicemembers I have the distinct honor of representing thousands of servicemembers across several military installations in TX-23, including Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Fort Bliss in El Paso, and Joint Base San Antonio. As a 20-year Navy veteran, I have made it a priority since my first day in Congress to provide tangible results for the men and women who serve in our armed forces. As part of the National Defense Authorizations Act (NDAA) that passed last week, these installations will receive much-needed resources that will have a direct impact on our servicemembers' quality of life and mission-preparedness. During triumph and hardship, we lean on our sacred beliefs to guide us. With this chapel's completion, servicemembers will have an appropriate space on base to practice their faith. For our troops to respond at a moment's notice, we must ensure that our military bases are capable of efficiently transporting personnel and equipment. With this funding, Fort Bliss will be able to improve its supply chain operations by rail. San Antonio is home to a robust cyber sector. Yet, as we continue to see cyber security threats grow, it is essential that we support the infrastructure needed to combat these attacks. Parents who serve our country make great sacrifices, but they should never have to compromise their child's development. With this investment, military families at JBSA-Lackland can have peace of mind that their children's upbringing will be prioritized. Financial Relief for Military Families As part of the FY24 National Defense Authorization Act, my amendment to increase the Family Separation Allowance (FSA) was included to give military families financial relief whenever their loved one is called to report for active duty. Bumping Pay for Border Patrol Last week's NDAA passage was not only beneficial for our servicemembers — thousands of our Border Patrol Agents will now be authorized to receive a higher rate of overtime pay. Our men and women in green work tirelessly to uphold our border security. They deserve to be compensated fairly for all of their efforts.
