NHCDP County Convention Update



 

Our county convention is scheduled to be held on Saturday March 28th.  Because of the ongoing public health emergency caused by COVID-19, the North Carolina Democratic Party has directed that we hold our convention online, as a Virtual Convention. What this will mean is that you will participate online, using a computer or other internet device, or that you will participate by phone.

 

How Will I get access to the Virtual Convention?

 

To get access to the convention you need to sign up in advance online.  We expect to send information about registering for the Virtual Convention by email on March 20th. If a Democrat you know does not have access to the internet to register for the Virtual Convention, our March 20th email will include a phone number so that an NHCDP volunteer can register them and provide call-in information. We ask all precinct chairs to determine whether a convention delegate from their precinct needs this assistance.

 

How can I sign up as a delegate to the District Convention and State Convention?

 

You can sign up in advance to be a delegate to the District Convention and State Convention here. You do not need to participate in our Virtual County convention to be eligible to attend the District and State conventions. We don’t yet know whether those meetings will be in-person or what form the meetings will take.

 

What business will be conducted at the Virtual Convention?

 

Our County Convention must vote to send delegates to the District and State Conventions. We do not need to act on electing members of Legislative and Judicial Executive committees - we can do that at a subsequent County Executive Committee meeting. We also will not consider resolutions at the Virtual Conventions. Resolutions with be sent directly to the 7th District Chair.
