Dear Friend,

As a general rule, we tend not to respond to our critics. By and large, what is written about the Claremont Institute from the Left is absurd and defamatory, often to the point of being libelous. But until the libel and defamation laws get changed (we’re working on it!), legal action is rarely worth it.

We don’t let it get under our skin, though. When you have the same authors writing essentially the same articles about you time and time again, sometimes it’s best just to laugh, knowing that somewhere in the minds of the monied interests paying for the hit pieces, Claremont is living rent-free—to the point that subsidizing hacktivists is their preferred way of setting fire to their enormous piles of cash.

But it’s not just the fevered obsessions of one or two troubled Claremont critics. More generally, the Left is growing nervous that people of decency and common sense are listening to our arguments and finding them persuasive. So, the attacks are intensifying.

But with each attack, the mask falls a bit more and the true reason behind the hit-piece becomes evident. Sometimes, the smear merchant—excuse me, “crusading journalist"—even inadvertently presents some facts. The New Republic ([link removed] ) , for example, recently wrote that “If either Trump or DeSantis becomes president in 2024, Claremont and its associates are likely to be integral to the “brain trust” of the new administration.”

OK, they got us dead to rights on that one. When conservative presidents want the best, smartest, and savviest people to help them, they know where to find a Claremont fellow, or alumni, or fellow traveler.

If I were on the Left, I would be nervous, too.
