#196

Howdy comrades,

Communications Committee checking in and bringing you edition #196 of the Houston DSA newsletter! Hope to see you at one of our upcoming events! Solidarity!

Palestinian Liberation Working Group

Make art for Palestine with us this Friday, December 15 at 4 PM to raise money for SJP's Gala4Gaza in January, in benefit of the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund (PCRF). There is a recommended donation of $5 per person for attending the event, which will go towards holding the gala. Come out and make your best Palestine art-- it's going to be auctioned at the gala!

We call on the community to join us as we continue to shut it down for Palestine, stand against Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza, and reject the US government’s refusal to call for a permanent ceasefire. Meet us at 1 PM this Saturday, December 16 at Houston’s City Hall where we will demand a full and permanent ceasefire, an end to US complicity, an end to the siege on Gaza, the release of all Palestinian prisoners, and the liberation of all Palestinian land!

We are having our working group meeting on Thursday, December 21 at 7 PM. Meeting will be held at Bohemeos with a Zoom call in option. Make sure to RSVP for Zoom link.

Recap: Naila And The Uprising

Houston DSA had a great solidarity screening of Naila and the Uprising over the weekend. Many non-members were in attendance and we were able to be in community expressing our solidarity for Palestinian liberation. It was also a pleasure to share space with our movement partner, Rice SJP, and we encourage our members to attend their Gala for Gaza on January 28th which will benefit the PCRF (Palestine Children's Relief Fund). Great discussions were had and we can't wait for the next one!

Political Education Working Group

This last Monday was the last Socialist Night School of the year. We will re-start in January with the new module "What Is Socialism?"

Make sure to join us for our next working group meeting on Tuesday, December 19 at 7 PM. We will meet at Bohemeos and have a Zoom call in option. Please RSVP for Zoom link.

General Meeting Tonight!

Join us for our monthly General Meeting today at 7 PM. Meeting will be held at 2506 Sutherland St and food will be provided. DSA member or not, come tune in to our chapter's work and connect with fellow organizers, and socialists. There is also a Zoom call in option. Please RSVP for Zoom link. Come join us and stick around afterwards for our post-meeting social!

Recap: Smash Bros Gamin' Tournament

The gaming caucus/group held our second eSports tournament fundraiser of the year! In July, it was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This time, it was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Many comrades came together to enjoy an evening of friendly competition, and the battles onscreen were very compelling.

Thank you to all the comrades who made it out to the SSBU tournament, and congratulations to comrades Caleb C. and Josh C. for winning the customized trophies. Both tournament fundraisers were streamed live to Twitch and featured live commentary. Please follow us at twitch.tv/houstondsa. To keep up with upcoming gaming caucus events, please join the Gaming channel in Mattermost.
