It's been another busy week in TX-23 and D.C. I am proud to serve our district in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. From helping you navigate federal casework to advocating for your priorities in Washington, my team and I are always here to help. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23. On the Border in Eagle Pass Yesterday, I was on the ground in Eagle Pass. I’ve made this trip more times than I can count, and I’ll keep doing it until our borders are secure. The Del Rio Sector averaged over 3,000+ illegal crossings every day this week — a majority have entered through Eagle Pass. Eagle Pass Emergency Management Director Jesus Cardona briefed me on the city’s ongoing battle to mitigate the damage this crisis has caused. I also met with Eagle Pass International Bridge Director Homero Balderas and Mayor Rolando Salinas to discuss how we can strengthen our ports and make them less vulnerable to delays or closures. Consequences for Illegal Immigration 9 out of 10 migrants seeking asylum don't qualify. Our asylum system is being abused as a shortcut – we need to show that there are consequences to these misguided applications. This week, I joined Fox News to highlight the importance of sending home those who don't qualify for asylum back to their country of origin through deportation flights. I assured them that I would continue to back all efforts to return their loved ones safely and support Israel as they work to defeat Hamas. Legislative Update: Sheriffs & County Judges On Wednesday, I met with county judges and sheriffs across TX-23 to get the latest on what's happening on the ground in South and West Texas. We discussed federal grant assistance, border security, and local priorities that my office is working to get across the finish line. I look forward to continuing our partnerships and working together to deliver for our communities. Townhall with Lt. Governor Dan Patrick On Wednesday, I held a telephone townhall meeting with special guest, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. We covered topics such as the state of the border crisis and supporting our law enforcement across our respective levels of government. If you missed this one or would like to join for my next telephone townhall, be sure to sign up here. Social Media Recap My team and I are always available to assist you.
