The Vote

We're all grateful for President Trump's leadership in this time of uncertainty.

First, and most important, we wish for your continued health and safety as all of us come together as a united country in response to the novel coronavirus. This isn't a partisan issue; this is an American issue -- which is why attempts from the left to politicize this crisis are repugnant.

President Trump will hold a press conference at 3pm today. Before then, here's the news you'll want to know as you head into the weekend.

The Trump Administration is "uniquely positioned" to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

"From border control and foreign goods to deadly germs, this is a crisis Trump is uniquely positioned to handle responsibly. Instead of downplaying the problem, he should admit the truth and talk calmly about the things we can do now and in the future to prevent dire results." [Read the full story from The Federalist.]

As we've shared with you since coronavirus was first mentioned in headlines, the Trump Administration has responded swiftly and decisively to protect Americans.

President Trump's willingness to:

  • act decisively to close American borders to countries judged to have a high risk of coronavirus cases, first China and now -- as he announced this week -- some European countries,

  • promote American manufacturing to alleviate concerns about supply chain problems, a fancy way of saying make sure we have access to raw materials or goods in the U.S. instead of just importing them from abroad, and

  • speak directly with the American people on social media, in the prime-time TV address this week, and in a press conference this afternoon

make him a consistent leader in a time of uncertainty.

That's in sharp contrast to some on the left who want to use this historic moment to play partisan games and push their political agenda.

Sadly, some Democrats want to play politics with emergency legislation on coronavirus.

"As the nation braces for the effects of the Wuhan coronavirus, congressional Democrats and left-leaning groups have seized on the moment of crisis to push for the enactment of longstanding policy goals." [Read the full story from the Washington Free Beacon.]

There's an infamous line from the Obama Administration, attributed to President Obama's once Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel: "You never let a serious crisis go to waste."

Unfortunately, it seems that some on the left have taken those words to heart as the coronavirus emergency bill has been bogged down with items from left-wing Democrats' political wish-list.

The Washington Free Beacon reported on new mandates for employers, while Lifezette reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi allegedly tried to push abortion funding into emergency coronavirus legislation.

But President Trump is holding accountable the politicians who want to play games on this important issue.

"President Donald Trump said Thursday that he doesn’t support House Democrats’ coronavirus relief bill in its current form because it includes too many 'goodies' that have nothing to do with the disease." [Read the full story from The Daily Signal.]

We can count on President Trump to speak his mind -- and speak directly. That's exactly what he did in response to some Democrats playing politics with the coronavirus funding bill.

President Trump said he did not support the House Democrats' proposed coronavirus bill ... and he explained exactly why.

"'It’s not a way for them to get some of the goodies that they haven’t been able to get for the last 25 years,' the president said of House Democrats," as the Daily Signal reported.

Instead, President Trump has taken his proposals directly to the American people on social media, in his prime-time TV address, and -- we presume -- in his press conference this afternoon.

Shamefully, one liberal group is using coronavirus to cut political attack ads.

"A liberal group spent $250,000 to attack Sen. Steve Daines' response to the coronavirus outbreak in a new television ad campaign. Protect Our Care started airing the 30-second ad aimed at the Montana Republican running for reelection on cable and broadcast television in the state on Thursday. Protect Our Care is a group devoted to protecting Obamacare that is aligned with Senate Democrats." [Read the full story from The Washington Times.]

You might be able to repeat it with us now: coronavirus is not a partisan issue; it's an American issue.

You've now read how some House Democrats want to play politics with emergency legislation in response ... and now we're sad to share a new low, as a left-leaning group used coronavirus in an attack ad against a Republican senator -- and spent $250,000 on the campaign.

This isn't a time for political stunts. It's a time for American solutions. Hopefully the left will think about that message and emulate President Trump's leadership next week.
