After a competitive application process, we are excited to announce this year's 2023-2024 DeSoto County District Attorney’s Youth Advisory Council – a first for the District Attorney’s Office.

The Council will meet regularly throughout the school year to give Barton’s administration insight into issues affecting our youth and equip students with skills to be successful leaders in the community.

This is the first of many initiatives to come that will show the positive direction our office is headed, resulting in a more successful and safe DeSoto County. The Advisory Council will not only provide our youth with the opportunity to have a voice and learn about the criminal justice system, but will also give our administration insight into the pressures facing our youth.

This year’s inaugural Council will be comprised of students who attend high schools from across DeSoto County and will begin meeting in January. Council members will be exposed to careers in law enforcement, the judicial system, participate in volunteer projects, and share ideas with state and local leaders. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to attend State Supreme Court and Circuit Court proceedings.
