John – I just filed for re-election to represent the Second Congressional District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. Many are choosing to retire from Congress this year, which is frankly understandable. This year has been a particularly tumultuous one in Congress. We’ve seen chaos and infighting. The perverse incentive structure in American politics makes it more profitable and rewarding for politicians to sow division and generate fame for themselves rather than working on behalf of their constituents. All of this distracts from the real work in front of Congress for the American people - securing the southern border, reining in inflation, addressing crime in our communities, and stopping the scourge of fentanyl. DONATE TO SUPPORT MY RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN But, at least to me, that is all the more reason to remain in the fight. Our country desperately needs leadership at this moment - serious legislators who are committed to doing the hard work of policy making in Congress. That is what I’ve tried to provide - real leadership - to my constituents and my country since I was elected to the House five years ago. We’ve made a lot of progress since then. I serve on one of the most powerful committees in the entire Congress - the Energy and Commerce Committee. I’ve used my position to stand up for the oil and gas industry that is under constant attack from the Biden Administration and radical environmentalists and have passed serious bills aimed at boosting American energy production and dominance. This year, I was named Chairman of the Congressional Cartel Task Force. I’m focusing this task force on developing policy solutions to completely destroy the Mexican drug cartels that are taking advantage of the open border to kill Americans with fentanyl poison. And I’ve proposed legislation that would stop the illegal immigration crisis that has an acute impact on my state of Texas. My bills would stop the abuse of our asylum laws and discourage illegal immigration. Equally important, I use my position in Congress to carry out a vital mission - growing the conservative movement to be successful and robust for generations to come. The conservative movement finds itself at a moment of choosing: Do we devolve into a movement based on clicks and outrage? Or do we grow our movement by persuading more Americans to join us, staying grounded in the principles of conservatism that our country needs now more than ever? I choose the latter. That’s why I hold the Crenshaw Youth Summit, attracting thousands of young Americans from across the country to Texas to hear from conservative leaders, persuading them to join our movement. And that’s why I’m not afraid to go anywhere and everywhere to spread our conservative vision, including CNN, MSNBC, the Daily Show, Real Time with Bill Maher, and The View. I truly believe this is how we grow our conservative movement to elect sustaining, governing majorities to every level of American politics. And that’s what I will continue to try to accomplish. Serving the people of Texas in elected office is an honor and responsibility I cherish. I am excited for my re-election campaign and for the opportunity to continue that service for the Second District of Texas in the House of Representatives.
