Dear Advocates,

As we hinted in our last email to you, we aren’t cleaning up the ocean… but we ARE using science-based data from our Plastic Free Parks project to push for critical policy efforts!

Our brand new TrashBlitz mobile app (download it today!) supports community science volunteers around the world in collecting data on trash that has entered the environment. This localized data helps to paint a picture of a region’s (in this case, all of the U.S. National Parks and Federal Lands) trash problem and then informs 5 Gyres’ recommendations that help reduce plastic pollution – for example, passing the Reducing Waste in National Parks Act. Our data was even used to support the New York Attorney General’s lawsuit against PepsiCo!

And that’s just one example of how we’re driving change in the advocacy space. We’re also leading work on microfiber filtration legislation in California, testifying in Congress, and spearheading regional coalitions – and we’re just getting started! Your support gives us an opportunity to drive real solutions that stop plastic pollution at the source – let’s turn off the tap!

Donate to 5 Gyres’ Policy Efforts

Thank you for supporting science-based solutions,

Alison Waliszewski

Director of Policy & Programs
