Dear John,
Do not miss out on signing up for health insurance for you and/or your family! Deadlines are coming up fast.
The 2024 Open Enrollment Season for Medicare, Medicaid, and the Health Care Exchange is still open and I want to ensure that you have the information and resources that you or a family member may need to find the best health care plan to meet your needs.
If you are eligible for Medicare:
The Medicare Open Enrollment Period for the coming year runs from October 15 to December 7, 2023. During this time, if you get your health insurance through Medicare, you can sign up for coverage, or reconsider or modify your health care plan. That goes for Medicare, Medicare Advantage, or Medicare Part D.
- For information, advice, or assistance on coverage options, please contact the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) at 1-800-432-2080 or at this link. SHIP staff also hold limited in-person appointments and enrollment events and can help you compare plans and provide other helpful information. Please call 800-432-2080 for more information.
- To compare Medicare Plan options, you are also able to visit medicare.gov to access the “Plan Finder” tool, where you can build prescription drug lists and compare benefits.
Uninsured or Insured through the New Mexico State Health Care Exchange (beWellnm):
The annual open enrollment period to buy or modify an individual or family health care plan for the coming year runs from November 1, 2023 to January 15, 2024.
- To sign up for or renew your health and dental coverage, please visit bewellnm.com. Through the exchange, you can browse and sign up for plans or renew your coverage, including Medicaid.
- For assistance and customer support, you are welcome to contact the Customer Support Center at 1-833-862-3935 or find additional assistance here.
Lower Health Care Costs
I also wanted to share that last year, I championed, Congress passed, and President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act. Importantly, this law will lower health care costs for millions of Americans and address the cost of prescription drugs and cap out-of-pocket costs for seniors. The Inflation Reduction Act will:
- Limit out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries to $2,000 annually beginning in 2025.
- Allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors (starting with some of the highest-cost prescription drugs this year).
- Extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) Premium Tax Credits implemented in COVID-19 relief legislation through 2025. According to the minority Committee on Ways and Means, extending this subsidy will prevent 3 million people from becoming uninsured.
- Cap monthly insulin prices at no more than $35 a month.
As always, if you have additional questions or if you are experiencing trouble with your federal programs or health coverage, please contact my office at (505) 428-4680, where a member of my team will be happy to assist you.
It is an honor to represent you and our community. Thank you.
Sincerely,

Teresa Leger Fernández
