Raising the unfair practises of Management Companies on BBC South East

I have been campaigning for some time on the issue of Property Management Companies on behalf of residents in Dartford.  As part of this campaign, I appeared on BBC South East News to raise the unfair practises of some of these companies, calling for legislation to be brought forward to tackle this problem.

King's Speech - Management Companies

In light of my campaign on the unfair practices of Property Management Companies, I am delighted with the announcement in the King’s Speech that a law is to be introduced to stop householders being exploited by punitive charges.

King's Speech - convicts will be forced to attend sentencing hearings


Also in the recent King's Speech, it was announced that convicts will be forced to face their victims and attend their sentencing hearings - something I have called for numerous times since the sentencing of Claire Tiltman's killer in 2014.

Parliament Week

Parliament Week takes place every year and is designed to spread the word about what Parliament is and what it does.  During this year's Parliament Week, I visited the Brent Primary School, Cherry Orchard Primary Academy and The Leigh Academy to explain my role and answer questions.

Remembrance in Dartford and Westminster


It was a privilege to mark Remembrance in both Dartford and Westminster. 

The service in Dartford was well supported by local people and it was good to see veterans, youth groups and other organisations all taking part.

Dartford's Festival of Light


The 14th annual Dartford Festival of Light took place in November with light displays, street theatre and bands, starting with a parade and culminating in a fantastic firework display.

Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme


Since I became the MP for Dartford in 2010, I have campaigned on extending the scope of the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme. The ULS scheme allows anyone, including the victim of a crime or a member of the public, to appeal to the Attorney General for a sentence to be reviewed and possibly increased if it is deemed to be too lenient.

I recently raised this issue again in Justice Questions in the House of Commons.

Dartford Grammar School Careers Fair


It was great to go back to Dartford Grammar School, which I attended many, many years ago and speak to their students during the Careers Fair, to give them an insight into pursuing a career in Politics.
