Chairman Nehls Gavels in Rail Hearing Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Chairman Nehls Leads Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Hearing on the Future of Passenger Rail This week, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials held a hearing to examine the state of high-speed rail and other emerging technologies in our U.S. passenger rail networks. During the hearing, the committee discussed the importance of having more competition and private sector involvement in passenger rail in America. Since its inception, California's high-speed rail has been a boondoggle and a complete waste of taxpayer money. Frankly, California has given high-speed rail across the country a bad reputation. I will continue to conduct robust federal oversight to ensure that America's taxpayer dollars go to projects that can be beneficial to the public and are sustainable. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes 'YES' to Pass the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act The United States House of Representatives passed the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act, which permanently freezes $6 billion of Iranian funds released by the Biden Administration on September 11, 2023, in exchange for the release of five American citizens held by Iran, along with the freeing of five unidentified Iranians held by the United States. Releasing these funds sets a dangerous precedent that will incentivize more hostage-taking by the leading state sponsor of terror in the world. The United States should never under any circumstances negotiate with terrorists, appease terrorists, or the Iranian regime that proclaims, “death to America.” Less than one month later, Hamas launched its brutal attack on Israel, killing innocent civilians and taking dozens as hostages. Contrary to the Biden Administration's claims, the $6 billion handed over by the Biden Administration is fungible. We simply cannot allow funds to flow to the Iranian regime, which directly provides money, arms, and technology to Hamas terrorists. I proudly voted for this important legislation to immediately freeze the $6 billion in Iranian funds and limit Iran’s ability to continue to fund terrorism, develop nuclear weapons, and inflict harm on the American people. This Week in TX-22 Rep. Troy E. Nehls Tours DetectaChem I had the opportunity to visit with DetectaChem, a TX-22 business that manufactures handheld drug and explosive detection systems. Through partnership with law enforcement and first responders, they are helping to promote a safe and efficient threat detection. As former Sheriff of Fort Bend County, I appreciated learning about their new technology. Attention Veterans: Do you need assistance with your VA claims? Information About the Ongoing Situation in Israel The Department of State continues to closely monitor the security situation in Israel. The Department has a 24/7 coordinating group communicating with U.S. citizens and providing them assistance through phone calls and an online form. U.S. citizens seeking to be in touch with the U.S. Embassy in Israel can fill out the form ([link removed]) or call 1-833-890-9595 or 1-606-641-0131.
