The True Harm of President Biden’s Green New Deal Agenda
This week, President Biden’s Green New Deal agenda cost 19 employees at Black Butte Coal Company their jobs, and now more families in Wyoming will be dealing with the fallout over the holidays. My heart breaks seeing good people lose their jobs and what makes this situation particularly painful is the fact it is a direct result of the Biden administration’s war on domestic energy production and coal in particular.

Coal miners work hard to keep the lights and heat on in Wyoming during frigid winter nights and they deserve our gratitude. Despite what this administration may have you believe, America very much still needs coal, as evidenced by the fact it is the 3rd-largest energy source for the country’s grid, and Wyoming needs coal miners.

Wyoming’s coal and energy sectors are far from the only ones getting stymied by the Biden administration.

Ramaco Resources in northern Wyoming announced this week it discovered the largest unconventional rare earth deposit in our country worth around $37 billion. The rare earth minerals underground right at home in Wyoming are essential in building electronics, jet engines and generators. Beyond bringing jobs and investment to the Cowboy State, the find would also create an unprecedented opportunity for our country to break our dependence on China for certain critical minerals.

However, none of that is possible until President Biden’s overbearing regulatory state gets out of the way. On average, it takes 19 years for a mining project to complete environmental reviews and get the necessary permits to break ground. It is past time to streamline our permitting process to get these projects underway.

I will continue to serve as a fierce advocate for Wyoming industries and workers in Washington to speed up the permitting process to ensure no more energy workers’ jobs are eliminated by radical environmentalists’ political vendetta.

Happy Trails,
Senator Lummis' Week in Pictures

I was thrilled to welcome the CEO of the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce EJ House and Anni Bushnell to Washington this week, and even got to show them Team Lummis’ Christmas tree.

WORKING IN WASHINGTON

Legislative Actions:

  • I joined U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) in sending a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin demanding answers over the Biden administration’s decision to extend a sanctions waiver that gave Iran $10 billion.
    • Bad actors around the world, and Iran in particular, have been emboldened by President Biden’s weakness. The last thing we need to be doing is giving foreign adversaries access to billions of dollars.
    • It is time to restore our country’s leadership around the world and reestablish the highly successful peace through strength approach of the Trump administration.
WORKING IN WYOMING

Working for Wyoming:

I am concerned that President Biden is using the government to put his finger on the scale ahead of the 2024 election with Executive Order 4019, which instructed federal agencies to engage in voter mobilization and submit to the White House a plan for doing so. Using the federal government to influence elections is flagrantly illegal and the people of Wyoming deserve answers about how their tax dollars are being spent.

I joined U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) in sending a letter to President Joe Biden requesting transparency and raising concerns that the executive order is a potential violation of the Antideficiency Act, which prohibits federal agencies from using funds without congressional authorization, as well as an act of potentially unlawful electioneering.

What the people of Wyoming need to restore their trust in our elections are answers, and I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure they get the transparency from this administration that they deserve.
GRANT OPPORTUNITIES FOR WYOMING
The Department of Interior announced a new funding opportunity for the WaterSMART grant program. These water and energy efficiency grants provide funding for projects that result in quantifiable water savings, implement renewable energy components and support broader sustainability benefits. The program is specifically geared toward promoting the sustainability of water in Wyoming and across the west.

WYOMING SHOUT OUT
Earning the title of Ultimate Angler in Wyoming is no easy feat. Since the program launched, just 44 people have accomplished the tall task of catching all 10 of the trophy-sized fish that make up the largest fish in the state.

15-yeard old Brayden Baker became just the third teen in history to join the ranks of Ultimate Angler, and managed to do it all within 60 miles of his hometown of Lander. While a Yellowstone cutthroat trout was his final catch, his favorite fish that he caught along the journey was the lake trout. Congratulations Brayden, keep reeling ‘em in!
