I’m proud that New York is taking a strong stance on gun safety, but I’m afraid it’s not enough. Until there are federal laws banning assault weapons, even states that have strong firearm safety legislation will be at risk of mass shootings involving weapons of war.
Too many in Congress are listening to the agenda of the gun lobby. It’s time to make them listen to the American people for a change.

Too many communities, including our own, have been hurt by gun violence. We have a chance to put an end to the cycle of mass shootings by eliminating the tool most used by these gunmen. Both the terrorist in El Paso and the shooter in Dayton had assault weapons at their disposal that were easily and legally obtained. We have an opportunity to make sure that never happens again.
