When my community was shattered by gun violence, I was furious. I was angry at our leaders for failing to prevent a tragedy.

My classmates and I weren’t even old enough to vote, but we knew we had to do something.

We were never going to sit down.

We were never going to “wait our turn.”

We were never afraid to fight for the future we want — the future we deserve.

And now, five years later:

• We passed the first federal gun safety law in THIRTY YEARS.
• We have a whole generation of young people voting for the first time because of the issue of gun safety.
• Gun violence prevention advocates have run for office in record numbers — helping push back against the gun lobby and make our communities safer.
• And just two months ago, President Biden announced the first-ever Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

In 2024: young people and the gun violence prevention movement will be crucial to saving our democracy.
