Five years ago, my world turned upside down when a gunman with a military-grade assault weapon stormed my high school, shooting 34 people and killing 17 kids and educators.


In the wake of the tragedy, I was determined to do something about this injustice.

That's when I met Gail Schwartz – the aunt of 14-year-old Parkland shooting victim, Alex Schachter.

Although we were still in shock, it was clear to us that the inaction of our legislators was what enabled a killer to easily and legally access a weapon capable of causing so much destruction.

Together, with other mourning family members from the Parkland and Pulse community, we funneled our grief into action.

This year, I co-founded Leaders We Deserve alongside Kevin Lata, to elect young people to office to make real change in Congress and State Legislatures across the country.


We’re working to build a better future for the next generation and we’ve already made significant strides in the gun violence prevention movement. But we have to make sure we have the resources we need heading into 2024 to elect a wave of young leaders who will fight to ban assault weapons and end gun violence once and for all. That’s why we’re teaming up with BAWN to hit our Giving Tuesday fundraising goal – $2,500 in the next 13 hours – and fully fund our critical mission.
