Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year -- but too many of the deals we find online are going to show up on our doorstep wrapped in an absurd amount of plastic.

The holiday shopping season adds even more waste to the growing mountain of plastic we generate -- enough to fill the Dallas Cowboys' stadium to the brim every day.[1]

As the world's largest online retailer, Amazon has a huge impact on the plastic waste crisis.

Tell Amazon: It's time to move beyond single-use plastic packaging.

Most of us are probably buying more things online than we really need, and too much of it arrives wrapped in plastic.

Almost all of that plastic packaging is going to end up in landfills, even if we try to recycle it -- less than 10% of plastic in the U.S. actually ends up being recycled.[2]

The growing tide of plastic is rapidly turning into a crisis. In America alone, we generate 35 million tons of plastic waste every year.[3]

As the world's largest online retailer, Amazon can make a big difference -- if they get rid of unnecessary single-use plastic packaging.

We know we have their attention. Earlier this year, after PIRG and our national coalition sent 137,000 petition signatures to the company, it announced plans to phase out padded plastic shipping envelopes in favor of recyclable alternatives.[4]

That's a good first step, but there's still more to do.
