Dear John,

This week, we applauded the Government of Canada for taking additional steps to help protect the Jewish community, saluted the governments of Saskatchewan and Manitoba for their commitment to enhancing their curriculum to ensure that future generations understand the Holocaust and the dangers of antisemitism, and invited you to join us in Ottawa on December 4 to unite and rally for the hostages, the people of Israel, and the safety of Jewish Canadians.

Read on to learn more.

The CIJA Team

The people of Israel need us today more than ever. Join CIJA, JFC-UIA, Canada's Jewish Federations, and thousands of community members and allies on Monday, December 4, at 1:30 PM ET on Parliament Hill to unite and rally for the hostages, the people of Israel, and the safety of Jewish Canadians. Contact your local federation for details <[link removed]>.

CIJA appreciates the Government of Canada’s additional steps to help protect the Jewish community by expanding the Security Infrastructure Program (SIP). The new updates include: the ability to have some expenses reimbursed starting from the date the application was submitted, rather than waiting for it to be approved; approval for SIP funds to be used for security guards; and expanded eligibility to more non-profits, including daycares. It also earmarks an additional $5M in funding for new applications, the deadline for which is March 31, 2024.

CIJA has been advocating for many of these changes to SIP, which is a lifeline for Jewish organizations and synagogues. Learn more. <[link removed]>

Saskatchewan has become the fourth Canadian province to adopt mandatory Holocaust education <[link removed]> in schools, joining Ontario, B.C., and Alberta. Holocaust education will be a compulsory component of the renewed Social Studies 10 curriculum expected to be introduced to high school students across Saskatchewan in 2025-2026. Read our full statement <[link removed]>.

We are also pleased to learn that Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has committed to mandating Holocaust education as part of the province’s K-12 curriculum.

Israel needs Canada’s support in its war against terrorism. It takes just a minute to add your voice and support the democracy of Israel while rejecting the hate and terrorism of Hamas.
