Puerto Ricans deserve the same fundamental rights the rest of us enjoy, and the ability to determine their future.

For over 100 years, Puerto Ricans have been American citizens without the full benefits of American citizenship.

They deserve the same fundamental rights the rest of us enjoy, and the ability to determine their future.

That’s why I recently introduced the Puerto Rico Status Act to establish a process for Puerto Ricans to determine their own political status. Will you add your name next to mine as a citizen co-sponsor?

Despite being citizens, Puerto Rico’s status as a territory means the more than 3 million residents cannot vote for the president of the United States, have voting power in Congress, or have access to federal resources like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The Puerto Rico Status Act would authorize a federally sponsored referendum to resolve Puerto Rico’s current political status and ensure Puerto Ricans can decide whether they would like independence, sovereignty in free association with the United States, or statehood.

If you agree that Puerto Ricans deserve the right to self-determination, please sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the Puerto Rico Status Act today >>
