It's been another busy week in TX-23 and D.C. I am proud to serve our district in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. From helping you navigate federal casework to addressing your concerns, my team and I are always here to help. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23. Punishment that Fits the Crime Last week, two innocent Americans were killed in a car crash with a human smuggler in Zavala County. This is one of many deadly incidents that have occurred because of illegal trafficking. On Tuesday, I held a joint press conference with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to call out the Biden administration for the national security nightmare that it has created. We spoke in favor of the impeachment of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and discussed the need for tangible action at the border. My legislation, the SAFER Act, combats this crisis head-on by closing asylum loopholes and ramping up deportations. To watch my press conference, click here. Border Townhall with Chairman Jim Jordan This week, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan (R-OH), joined my townhall to provide an update about our efforts to secure the border. We discussed actions that have been taken by the House of Representatives to address this crisis, such as passing H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act. H.R. 2 would expand the size of our Border Patrol, invest in security technology, and fix our broken asylum system. This is the strongest border security package to date, and I will continue fighting to ensure these policies can become law. Click here or the image above to listen. Holding the Biden Administration Accountable This week, I also questioned the Secretary of Homeland Security on his failure to enforce existing border security laws and protect the American people. One thing became abundantly clear during my questioning – this administration refuses to push back on illegal immigration. To change course, we must strengthen our weak asylum standards, impose severe penalties on the cartels, and increase the frequency of deportation flights.
