Rep. Troy E. Nehls Introduces Legislation to Stop Antisemitic Attacks on Campuses Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Troy E. Nehls and Rep. Aaron Bean Introduce the Ending Subsidies for Pro-Terrorist Activities on Campus Act After the October 7 Hamas attacks on our nation's greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel, antisemitic harassment, vandalism, and assault across the United States are up by 388%. Antisemitic attacks on college and university campuses are on the rise across the nation, causing Jewish students to live in fear. I am proud to join Congressman Aaron Bean (R-FL) in introducing the Ending Subsidies for Pro-Terrorist Activities on Campus Act. This legislation would prevent colleges and universities that are enabling antisemitic attacks from receiving taxpayer funding, specifically federal student aid. American taxpayer dollars should not be funding antisemitism at secondary education institutions. I will always stand with Israel and Jewish people across the world. Read more about the legislation HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Joins Newsmax Watch the full interview HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Attends House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Markup This week, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee held a markup and passed 13 pieces of legislation, including several bills that focused on consolidating federal office space and improving our nation's disaster preparedness and response. I proudly supported these pieces of legislation that slashes federal spending and save American's hard-earned dollars. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes to Prevent Avoidable Government Shutdown The United States House of Representatives passed a Continuing Resolution which extends government funding for the Agriculture, Energy and Water, Military Construction and Veterans, and Transportation appropriations until January 19, 2024, and the remaining eight appropriations bills until February 2, 2024. House Republicans continue to lead the government spending fight by putting forth legislation that denies Senate Democrats, Senate Republicans, and the White House the opportunity to jam the American people with a bloated, un-scrutinized omnibus before the holidays. So far, the House has passed seven appropriations bills, which account for 75% of federal spending. Chuck Schumer’s Senate has only passed three appropriations bills, accounting for 17% of federal spending. The Republican conference is ungovernable, and we are certainly not in this situation because of Speaker Johnson. I supported this plan to prevent a government shutdown, which would result in our nation's servicemembers not being paid, flights being canceled during the busiest time of year for travel, and the Senate jamming the House with a massive, unchecked Christmas omnibus spending bill. This Week in TX-22 Attention Veterans: Do you need assistance with your VA claims? If you can’t get an answer from the VA in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, my office may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. In addition, we can connect you with an accredited Veterans Service Officer (VSO). VSOs are trained and certified in the VA claims and appeals processes and work on behalf of Veterans and service members—as well as their dependents and survivors. Call my office at (346) 762-6597 or visit my website and let me know how I can be of assistance. Veterans History Project Submissions Are Now Open I am pleased to announce that submissions to the Veterans History Project (VHP) is now open to veterans residing in TX-22 who served in the U.S. military in any capacity. VHP accepts Veterans’ personal narratives in the forms of original, unedited audio-and video-recorded interviews, photographs, letters, diaries, journals, military documents, two-dimensional artwork, maps, and unpublished memoirs that meet minimum requirements. Researchers, scholars and educators rely upon VHP collections as a primary source. These oral histories, photographs, manuscripts and other original materials are a rich supplement to historical texts, and a valued cultural resource. Veterans’ family members treasure the memories that are permanently preserved at the Library of Congress for future generations. A briefing will be scheduled prior to your interview in order to answer questions and prepare participants. Pre-interviews may also be scheduled during this time. Date, time and location will be announced once we receive the list of interested participants. If interested please provide your name, phone number, and email address to: [email protected]. For more information, you may call (713) 806-8878. Information About the Ongoing Situation in Israel The Department of State continues to closely monitor the security situation in Israel.
