New Virginia Insurance Marketplace is Open

This is the first year Virginia is running its own health insurance exchange. From November 1, 2023 through January 15, 2024, Virginians can shop for a 2024 marketplace health insurance plan at marketplace.virginia.gov <[link removed]>, rather than the federal marketplace. There are also new subsidies for insurance plans this year that make them more affordable. We encourage all Virginians to see if they qualify!

If you have Medicaid, note that this year Medicaid renewals are resuming and some Virginians may lose Medicaid.

NVFS’ Health Navigator, Rocio Vasquez-Zambrano, is offering bilingual assistance in Health Benefits & Insurance Navigation to people with household incomes of 250% or below of the Federal Poverty Level <[link removed]> and living in zip codes 20112, 22025, 22026, 22079, 22125, 22134, 22172, 22191, 22192, 22193. Contact Rocio at 571-748-2825 or [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> today!

Trunk or Treating at the NVFS SERVE Family Shelter

A big "shout out" to Natasha Walker and the Jackson Harlow Beauty team for coordinating a fun Halloween for the kids at NVFS' SERVE Family Shelter.

Twelve volunteers decorated their car trunks for Halloween and the kids got to “trunk or treat” to each car where they got candy, juice boxes, and fun toys. The volunteers also brought superhero capes and masks as well as animal ear headbands so all the kids could get in the Halloween spirit! One volunteer even did face painting and many kids enjoyed their transformation into tigers, puppies, cats, butterflies, Ninja Turtles and more! The experience was a fun treat enjoyed by all.

Volunteer Spotlight: Thrift Store Appraisers

NVFS' Clock Tower Thrift Shop <[link removed]> recieves donations as diverse as our supporters. For the more unique and valuable items we depend upon our skills-based volunteers to assess and value these donations to ensure that we price these items accurately. Their expertise helps our customers by making sure higher-end items are priced fairly, but also ensures that our shop gets the revenue it should which is particularly important since all the profits from the Clock Tower Thrift Shop go towards where it's most needed in NVFS and our community.

We have a few of these skills based volunteers that use their expertise to help NVFS and their community. Pictured are appraisers Susan LaBarca and Kristen Singer. Thank you both and thank you to all our skills-based volunteers!
