The Holidays Are Almost Here!

Enjoy the crisp air, cozy up to the campfire, and let Texas State Parks help you celebrate the holidays. Parks are loaded with events to enjoy from Thanksgiving weekend all the way through Christmas!

Be sure to visit the Holidays in the Parks page and Calendar of Events for all the great event options and winter wonder your parks have to offer.

Parks fill up fast during the holidays. Make your reservations in advance for day passes and overnight sites.


Austin and San Antonio Area Events

●  6th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run at South Llano River on Nov. 23. The park is home to a Rio Grande turkey roost, so we found it fitting that we have a Turkey Trot!

●  Deck the Halls at Lyndon B. Johnson on Nov. 25. Learn about making Christmas decorations with natural materials.

●  Holiday Festival of Lights at Inks Lake on Dec. 16. Come one, come all, to our THIRD ANNUAL Holiday Festival of Lights. We invite campers to decorate their campsite the weekend before Christmas in the spirit of the holidays.

●  Holidays for the Birds at Lockhart on Dec. 13 and Dec. 23. Join the elves in Santa’s workshop and make bird feeders for our feathered friends!

Dallas/Fort Worth Area Events

●  Walk Off the Stuffing at Ray Roberts - Johnson Branch Unit on Nov. 24. Feeling a little stuffed from all the stuffing you ate for Thanksgiving? No problem! Join Ranger Brett as we walk off the stuffing from Thanksgiving.

●  Gobble Wobble Thanksgiving Hike at Cedar Hill on Nov. 25. Walk off your Thanksgiving Day meal and explore nature in the cool fall air!

●  Turkeys Are on the Trail! at Lake Whitney on Nov. 25. The rafter or flock of turkeys are hiding on our Two Bridges Trail. Walk, wobble or strut your way along this one-mile trail to find those gobblers. 

●  Light Up the Park at Eisenhower on Dec. 8-9. This is a drive-through holiday light event with an interactive stop for Santa meet & greet, pictures, DIY activities and more! Please bring one unwrapped toy per vehicle for entrance to this event.

●  Bonham State Park's Annual Christmas Light up the Park Event at Bonham on Dec. 15-16. Drive through the campground and see the campsites decorated for the holiday season. Campsite fees waived Dec. 11-17 for those who participate by decorating their campsites with holiday lights and decorations.

Houston and Gulf Coast Area Events

●  Guided Turkey Hike at Galveston Island on Nov. 23. There has never been a wild turkey recorded in the park, but that won’t stop us from looking for one! Join us for a slow-paced hike over moderate terrain with a naturalist.

●  Wildcraft: Turkeys! at Brazos Bend on Nov. 25. Join us outside the Nature Center for a story and coloring craft about turkeys!

●  Creekside Christmas at Village Creek on Dec. 9. Put on your jingle bells and come out to the park for the annual Creekside Christmas celebration!

●  Christmas in the Park at Goose Island on Dec. 9. See the park in lights, enjoy holiday activities and CAMP FOR FREE when you decorate your campsite!

●  Santa's Workshop at Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 16. Our feathered friends deserve gifts too! Come help Santa’s elves make the perfect gift for your backyard birds.

West Texas & Panhandle Area Events

●  The Thanksgiving Van Tour at Palo Duro Canyon on Nov. 23. Enjoy a guided drive through Palo Duro Canyon from the comfort of our van during the Thanksgiving holiday.

●  Christmas in the Desert at Balmorhea on Dec. 16-17. Celebrate the holiday season with a stroll down the decorated tree grove and enjoy scenic sites as Christmas lights twinkle against the spring-fed swimming pool.

●  Fa La La in the Forest at Abilene on Dec. 9. Campers adorn their campsites, screened shelters, and yurts with festive decorations for all to see.
