Republicans are playing games with our livelihoods again.

John – Is that déjà vu? Or…could it be?

That’s right, folks. We’re on the brink of another government shutdown.

If you feel like we were just here, you’re not crazy. We were. The dysfunctional GOP leadership has become obsessed with kicking the can down the road instead of having any kind of productive negotiations that fund the government and save America's reputation.

A graphic featuring a headline from The Sydney Morning Herald, which reads: “Days from chaos: The clock is ticking again for a government shutdown.”

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – shutting down the federal government is serious. Using that threat as a political football is irresponsible and dangerous.

Hundreds of thousands of government employees – including many right here in Idaho – will go without pay for who knows how long. Poor working families who depend on food assistance like SNAP and WIC will go hungry. And the shutdown will lead to delays in Social Security, Disability, and Medicare claims.

And, just like the last time we were in this position, there is simply no one to blame but House Republicans.

First they kicked their own guy out of leadership.

Then they wasted weeks picking a new Speaker instead of doing their jobs.

Now they’ve installed one of the most far-right, reactionary, and inexperienced members of their ranks as Speaker,  Mike Johnson, who has no plan to get us out of this.

In fact, last Friday, Johnson dismissed Congress early for the weekend so he could jet off to Paris instead of working to stop a devastating shutdown that will cost our economy billions of dollars.

Now Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene are threatening to take out the NEW speaker if she doesn’t get her way. Republicans are so divided by their own radicalism that they can’t come together on anything.

And it’s the everyday American who will pay the price if the government shuts down on Friday.

My opponent, Mike Simpson, is one of those who voted for Johnson as Speaker and who REFUSES to speak up and get his caucus in line. Can you pitch in right now and help me defeat him next year?

The disarray of the Republican party is an embarrassment. But it’s nothing we can’t get rid of if we come together.

Simpson was in Congress for the last shutdown the Republicans forced on us. On his watch, it dragged on for 35 days, cost our economy $11 BILLION, pushed hundreds of thousands of faithful public servants to the brink of financial ruin – and that’s just the beginning.

Funding the government is Congress’ single most important duty. It is the primary function of the legislative branch of government outlined in the United States Constitution – which Mike Simpson swore to uphold and protect.

We deserve representatives who won’t play games with people’s lives. Pitch in now to help me flip ID-02 next year so we can take back the House majority and get back to work.

Let’s do this!

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for almost 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
