As you may have heard, Jared Polis called a special session after the defeat of his deceptive ballot measure, Prop HH, while having no clear plan to address the property tax crisis he and his fellow Democrats created.

To make matters worse, radical Democrats in the legislature have signaled they are not interested in providing clean property tax relief to voters. Instead, they want to violate our Taxpayer's Bill of Rights even in the face of a resounding defeat for their tax-and-spend agenda with Prop HH.

These extreme Democrats are all but certain to refuse to do what voters clearly demanded when they rejected Prop HH last week – permanent property tax rate reductions that don’t touch our Taxpayer's Bill of Rights refunds.

Government is too big and spends too much. If citizens have to tighten their belts in tough economic times, then the government should tighten its belt as well by spending less and being more efficient with taxpayer dollars.

You should expect Democrats in the legislature to attempt to violate our Taxpayer's Bill of Rights and steal our refunds even though voters told them "NO!"

But we don't have to take it lying down.

That's why we are calling on all lawmakers, especially our Republican legislators, to support the Van Winkle Plan.

Republican State Senator Kevin Van Winkle has a plan that will address the current property tax crisis Democrats created and put Colorado back on track.

The Van Winkle Plan would cap the increase in property values to limit the runaway tax increases homeowners are getting saddled with.

By supporting the Van Winkle Plan, Colorado Republicans can provide a real solution to Coloradans facing this dire situation while highlighting the stark contrast between Republican principles that empower taxpayers and the Democrats' blatant disregard for fiscal responsibility.

As we celebrate this victory against Prop HH and prepare for a special session, the Colorado Republican Party calls on all citizens to stay vigilant and engaged as we enter into the 2024 elections. Together, we can ensure that our state continues to thrive, free from the excessive taxation and government overreach advocated by the Democrat Party.

For the Taxpayers,
Dave Williams
