Hi John,
This is huge.
The Attorney General has started criminal proceedings against the far-right extremist and serial fraudster, Tommy Robinson. This comes after thousands of us spoke out and urged her to take action.
Thanks to HOPE not hate supporters coming together to contribute to the campaign, we have been able to take our evidence of Robinson’s law-breaking right to the very top. I’m delighted; it’s been a major piece of work for us, and it has not come without personal cost for me and others at HOPE not hate.
This is a big moment, but we’ve got more to do. We’re going to have to keep working with lawyers to make sure that Robinson is prosecuted, and with your help we can give this case every chance in court. Will you chip in to help?
Help support the case
This is now an extremely serious situation for Robinson. If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison, his longest-ever period inside, and it’s a mess entirely of his own making.
Earlier this year, HOPE not hate researchers uncovered a heap of evidence that, we believe, shows Robinson blatantly ignored a court injunction and repeated libellous claims about a Syrian refugee schoolboy, Jamal Hijazi. You can read the full story here.
Throughout this whole period, we’ve just been motivated by the desire to see justice done for Jamal. Robinson turned Jamal’s life upside down several years ago when he spread vicious lies about him, and then he did so again by ignoring the court injunction.
Since doing so, Robinson has been living a life of luxury, jet setting around to meet right wing celebrities and renting out hugely expensive, decadent mansions in southern Spain all funded by his dwindling number of supporters.
There’s still a way to go in this case, and we need your help to make sure that justice is served. Will you help?
I’ll support the case
When this case goes to trial, it’ll become big public news. I will do what I can to keep you updated as the case progresses.
But for now, thank you again, John, any support you can give will be a huge help.
