Kim Olson for Congress

Jack xxxxxx,

This past week has been a whirlwind. On Tuesday, I came in first in the Democratic primary by double-digits, and ever since, my campaign has been running at full tilt to keep our momentum. But today, I wanted to connect with y’all about something near and dear to my heart.

March is Women’s History Month: a time when we celebrate the barrier-breaking women of history and recognize just how far we’ve come as women. As a member of the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame and the Iowa Aviation Hall of Fame, I consider myself lucky to be honored amongst the likes of Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan, and Sally Ride.

For too long, women were left out of important conversations and barred from entire fields. I saw this firsthand when I joined the Air Force and was told time and again that I couldn’t become a pilot because of my gender. I didn’t let that stop me, and as a result, this week we’re celebrating the 10th annual Women of Aviation Week.

Women flying airplanes, let alone military jets, was unheard of when I joined up. And even today, women are underrepresented in the cockpit.

Leveling the playing field between men and women will continue to be a struggle, and as I run to be Texas’ first women veteran in Congress, I’m especially cognizant of the barriers that my campaign is breaking each day.

So, be on the lookout for more content to come about Women’s History Month, and while you’re at it, why not make a donation to help me get to Congress and continue the fight for equality in Washington?

Over and out,

Kim Olson
