John,
When Senator Collins cast a critical vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, she justified her decision by saying Kavanaugh would respect precedent on Roe.
We knew that a woman’s right to choose was at risk, and now, it’s even clearer:
The Supreme Court just held oral arguments in a challenge to a Louisiana abortion restriction that is almost identical to a case they heard in 2016. They struck down that law because it was an undue burden on patients.
But instead of respecting precedent like Collins promised, Kavanaugh asked several questions about whether he is “bound by” this recent ruling. He’s signaling that he will vote to let state-level abortion restrictions stand.
Maine needs a Senator who will stand up for women's reproductive freedom, because Susan Collins has not. Sara Gideon will be that champion. But she cannot do it alone:
While Brett Kavanaugh's wealthy backers hold huge fundraisers for Susan Collins, it's up to us — all of us — to fight back. That is why your contribution is so important.
Thanks for your fight.
