Over the past few weeks, my team and I continued to meet with members of our community and various groups in Washington, D.C., and South Texas to discuss how I can best serve you.

Last week, my team hosted a Military Service Academy Day where they and representatives from the U.S. Service Academies answered questions for those interested in learning about the nomination process. To request a Military Academy Nomination from my office, please complete the form here by 5 p.m. CT on Friday, November 17, 2023.

After three additional elections, House Republicans elected Rep. Mike Johnson (LA-4) on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, as Speaker of the House.  While I missed the vote due to a death in the family, I am glad to be back to work for South Texas and hope we can find bipartisan solutions to the issues affecting our communities.

Earlier this month, my colleague Representative Andrew Garbarino (NY-02) and I, introduced H.R. 5837, the Protecting America's Property Rights Act, which would protect prospective homebuyers by requiring title insurance on federally-backed mortgages. At a time when owning a home has become even more unattainable for the average American with high mortgage rates and borrowing costs, prospective homeowners shouldn't be put at risk.

I also announced more than $2 million from the Federal Emergency Management Administration’s (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for the City of Harlingen. We’re no strangers to flooding in South Texas, and this crucial funding will ensure we have the proper infrastructure to reduce damage to homes and businesses.

I also announced a grant for the City of Brownsville from the United States Department of Transportation for over $256,000! With this funding, Brownsville can make bike lanes safer.

One of the most important parts of serving as your U.S. Representative is making sure that federal agencies are working with you and for you. Whether you are having issues with passports, USCIS, OPM, the VA, or the IRS, my staff is here to assist you.

Should you have questions or need assistance with a federal agency, please call my office at (956) 682-5545 or submit a request online here to speak with someone on my team.

You may also stop by our Neighborhood Hours where members of my staff come to a city near you to provide these services.

I want to thank everyone who came out during our Raymondville Neighborhood Hours!  Our next stop will be Mercedes on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Stop by Hector Garcia Memorial Library from 12 p.m.  to 5 p.m. CT if you have questions or need assistance with a federal agency!
