Dear Georgian,

The House returned to legislative business last week and made progress in passing the legislative branch and interior appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2024. This legislation limits job-killing regulations by the EPA, cuts bureaucratic red tape, prioritizes funding for public safety and critical operations and maintenance programs, and protects hunting, fishing, and recreational access.

This bill also requires oil and gas lease sales by the Biden Administration, promoting American energy independence and helping lower energy prices for hardworking Americans.

As a reminder, my office is still accepting internship applications for Spring 2024 in our Washington D.C. Office. Interested applicants can learn more here.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. Urging a Farm Bill Passage

Agriculture is Georgia's number one industry and the foundation of many of our rural communities. The Farm Bill, generally passed every five years, is the foundation of our country's agriculture policy and authorizes the programs our producers depend on.

Recently, I joined colleagues in sending a letter to the newly elected Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, underscoring the importance of the Farm Bill for our rural communities.

With the challenges our agriculture industry is facing, it is critical that Congress gets the next Farm Bill right.

Supporting Aid for Israel

On Thursday, my colleagues and I passed H.R. 6126, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. This $14.3 billion emergency funding package equips Israel with advanced weaponry and bolsters its missile defense systems while also prioritizing American military readiness.

By providing the necessary funding and resources, the United States reaffirmed our commitment to stand by Israel while they defend themselves against all enemies.

I will continue standing by Israel as its borders come under attack yet again from Iranian-backed terrorists, and I fully support Israel's right to defend their people from all acts of terrorism.

Strongly Condemning Terrorism

I strongly denounce all acts of terrorism around the world, and I supported a bipartisan resolution condemning the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at institutions of higher education.

We've seen an alarming amount of language at American universities justifying attacks from these terrorist groups in the Middle East. This has created a hostile environment for many Jewish students, faculty, and staff.

This resolution passed the House by a vote of 396-23, and also urges the Secretary of Education to direct the Office of Civil Rights to investigate these universities.

Farm Progress | Republican Reps urge Speaker to pass farm bill

"Newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson has been on the job for five days. His colleagues are already pushing him to do more. On Friday, 60 House Republicans sent him an open letter calling for the swift passage of a new farm bill. They say the letter was intended to highlight the critical importance of federal policies helping farm, ranch and forester families.

'Simply put, farm and food security is national security,' the Republican lawmakers say in their letter. 'For a mere one-fifth of one percent of federal spending, the farm safety net, including commodity support programs and crop insurance, provides farmers and ranchers the foundation they need to manage risk, pass their farm or ranch down to the next generation, and continue producing the highest quality, lowest cost food, fuel, fiber, and forestry products in the world.'"
