Friend, protecting public lands from fossil fuel exploitation is vital to laying the foundation for a sustainable, equitable future.

From the 330,780-acre Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument on California’s northern coast to over 288,000 acres in the Los Padres National Forest and Carrizo Plain National Monument, we have an opportunity to expand protections for vital ecosystems across our state.

Can you sign our petition asking California’s elected decision-makers in Washington, D.C. to stand up in defense of public lands across the Golden State?

Our forests, our coasts, and our oceans represent some of the most effective carbon sinks in the world. That means they pull CO2 out of the atmosphere and keep it sequestered, so protecting these public lands from fossil fuel exploitation is one of the most effective things we can do right now to combat climate change.

It’s not just about a green future though — it’s about a just, equitable one. Expanding the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument means more safeguards for Molok Luyuk, lands that are sacred to the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. Passing legislation to protect these lands will create permanent connections between the currently-protected space and other key wildlife corridors for species like tule elk, mountain lions, and black bears, as well as numerous threatened plant species.

That’s why we need your help today. Can you take just a minute to sign our petition to call for the protection of our deserts, forests, mountains, and rivers?

Protecting and expanding these habitats will preserve biodiversity, sequester greenhouse gasses, and ensure California’s natural splendor can be enjoyed by all for generations to come.
