Welcome to another edition of FT Now! What a week for national politics
this has been! That said, there may be some things you missed on the
homefront! In North Carolina, for example, voters chose Dan Forest to
face off against Gov. Roy Cooper in November. In Maryland, GOP Gov.
Larry Hogan is stopping a massive tax increase. And in a particularly
disgusting display of partisan politics, a councilwoman from Denver
"joked" about spreading the Coronavirus to Trump supporters. Yes,
really. Read below for more!

Roy Cooper and Dan Forest Will Face Off For North Carolina Governor in
November

What Happened:

North Carolinians didn't just go to the polls this week to vote in the
Democratic presidential primary! They also selected Republican Lt. Gov.
Dan Forest as the candidate to face off against incumbent Democrat Gov.
Roy Cooper this fall.

Why You Should Care:

Forest celebrated his victory by calling for unity. "We live in a very
divisive time politically," he said. "It's time to bring all North
Carolinians together and do away with identity politics."

What Happens Next:

Both candidates face a long campaign ahead of them!

Gov. Larry Hogan Fights for Hardworking Marylanders As Democrats Revive
Failed Policies of Tax King Martin O'Malley

What Happened:

Gov. Hogan is fighting back against a new plan by state Democrats to
raise taxes on hardworking Marylanders.

Why You Should Care:

Hogan's predecessor, Democrat Martin O'Malley, presided over more
than 40 tax increases during his tenure. Clearly, Maryland Democrats are
pining for those "good old days," as state legislators are proposing a
$2.9 billion sales tax increase. Do Democrats ever NOT want to raise
taxes?

What Happens Next:

Gov. Hogan will continue his work to ease the tax burden for Maryland
families - regardless of what tax-and-spend Democrats want.

Denver Democrat Faces Backlash After Tweeting "Solidarity" For Spreading
Coronavirus at Trump Rallies

What Happened:

Denver City Councilwoman Candi CdeBaca retweeted a post about spreading
Coronavirus at Trump rallies and added "#Solidarity Yaaaas!!" Meanwhile,
the death toll from the Coronavirus outbreak continues to climb...

Why You Should Care:

The episode, unsurprisingly, received hardly any media coverage. But it
perfectly illustrates how Democrat politicians still view Trump
supporters: worthless and deplorable.

What Happens Next:

Probably nothing?
