Dear Neighbors,

A new month is here and I hope you?ve enjoyed the start of your November. The 2024 legislative session begins on February 12 and I?ve been working with our community on ideas for next year - what we can improve, fix, or make more efficient in the state. You?re always welcome to email me throughout the year anytime at [email protected] with input or questions.

Recently, Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic announced [ [link removed] ] the formation of a new Joint Task Force on Emergency Medical Services. I?m excited to share I?ve been appointed to serve as co-chair on a panel that will examine new ways the Legislature can strengthen the lifesaving services EMS personnel provide in communities across the state*.* Senator Judy Seeberger of Afton, who also has an EMS background, will serve as co-chair.?

Minnesota has more than 250 licensed ground ambulance services, which in 2021 responded to approximately 540,000 emergency calls to 911. A February 2022 report by the Office of the Legislative Auditor outlined a variety of concerns about the overall viability of EMS providers and the persistent funding and staffing challenges they?ve faced in recent years, particularly in greater Minnesota.

EMS has always been a central part of my focus with my work at the Capitol. While we?ve made some positive strides forward, more work is needed to address the shortages our communities continue to face. I?m looking forward to serving in this new responsibility and role to improve EMS access so Minnesotans can get the emergency medical care they need when it?s needed.?

As I mentioned, I invite you to share feedback and ideas anytime; EMS-related or on any other state issue. Your input is important.?

Have a great weekend,

John?
