Sara Jacobs - Democrat, U.S. Congress

Hi friends, it’s Sara Jacobs.

Two years ago, President Biden’s American Rescue Plan expanded the Child Tax Credit, cutting child poverty in half.

Lifting children out of poverty and helping families access basic necessities like housing, food, education, and child care is the right thing to do - and it’s also good economic policy. Studies show that helping families make ends meet helps children grow up healthier, access higher education, and earn more as adults. When kids can grow and thrive, so does our economy.

Despite overwhelming research and evidence that policies like these are effective, not a single House Republican voted to expand the Child Tax Credit in 2021.

And then last year, after we had actual proof that these policies made historic reductions in child poverty, the GOP refused to extend the tax credit, pushing millions of children back into poverty and erasing all the progress we made.

Instead of prioritizing children, House Republicans advanced tax cuts for big corporations while doing nothing for families. Lifting kids out of poverty and giving them the chance to grow and flourish is the most basic thing our government could do. But Republicans won’t even come to the table to discuss reinstating this policy.

It’s unconscionable that my GOP colleagues are choosing to keep more kids in poverty when we have all the tools to fix this problem.

We have to vote them out in 2024.

If you’re as fed up as I am about the GOP choosing to keep children in poverty, sign your name and show your support for making the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent.

Thank you so much for your support on this critical issue.
