John,
As the only Palestinian American member of Congress, Rashida’s voice and lived experience are more critical now than ever. But in response to her leadership in calling for a ceasefire and an end to the genocide unfolding against millions of people trapped in Gaza, Rashida has been under relentless attack.
In some of their first business since electing a new Speaker of the House, Republicans introduced a resolution to censure Rashida, with even some Democrats joining these right-wing Islamophobic attacks:
Marjorie Taylor Green's unhinged resolution is full of dangerous lies and distortions. It isn't just Islamophobic and bigoted, it also attacks non-violent Jewish anti-war activists.
Last week, Rashida spoke at a rally in Washington, DC organized by Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow, and an interfaith prayer vigil and rally to hold the political establishment accountable for continuing the drumbeat of war that will lead to more lives lost, especially children in Palestine.
At the rally, Rashida reminded us that we must not lose our shared humanity. The cries of the mother in Gaza who lost all of her children in the unrelenting bombing by the Israeli government are the same cries of a father who listened to his daughter being attacked by Hamas not knowing if she is alive.
If the United States government and the world do not speak out now, more lives will be lost. The collective punishment of people in Gaza has been relentless, with whole neighborhoods destroyed, and generations of families wiped out. And the Israeli military is saying that they are just getting started.
Our movement demanding the human rights of Palestinians―and of all people―is growing. Americans are rising up, saying we will not be complicit in the genocide of Palestinians.
Together we must keep pushing for a just future where Israelis and Palestinians can live in justice and peace, without fear and with true freedom, equal rights, and human dignity.
— Team Rashida
