John,

Despite the legislative dysfunction of MAGA Republicans, we are making progress here in California. I'm proud of two of my environmental bills that were just signed into law:

AB 496, enhancing the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act, will ensure 26 harmful chemicals found in many cosmetic products can no longer be used, improving the safety of personal care products we rely on. Many of the 26 chemicals listed in the new law have been linked to various health problems, including a higher risk of cancer and damage to organs or eyes. Personal care products and cosmetics should be non-toxic for everyone, and this bill brings California in line with the most stringent consumer-safety laws in the world.

AB1322, the California Ecosystems Protections Act of 2023, will help stop unintentional poisonings of wildlife from the chemical diphacinone in rat poisons. Our beloved and iconic mountain lion P-22 was euthanized after amassing a series of health issues, and rodenticides were a major contributor, leaving him vulnerable to parasitic diseases. This is a major win in reducing deaths and illness for our pets and wildlife, and even our children who may unintentionally ingest these toxins.

I am proud that these critical bills are now California law, and I'm running for Congress so that I can work to pass this type of legislation on a national level.

CA-30 deserves proven, effective environmental and health leadership in Washington. If you’re able, please donate $3 today to help support my effort to succeed Adam Schiff.

I'm proud to have spent my entire career putting the health and safety of our communities ahead of the chemical industry lobby.

And when I’m in Congress, I will always prioritize safety over easy short-cuts.

Thank you,
Laura
