Join me tomorrow, Wednesday, & Thursday   Dear Neighbor, Starting tomorrow at 2pm, and continuing on Wednesday and Thursday, I will be hosting this year's Virtual Senior Resource Fair. Over three sessions we will explore opportunities for solo agers to make connections and build community, support available to ease the burdens of caregiving, and opportunities to explore and advocate for our natural environment. Also coming up this month: On October 31st, I will be hosting an in-person Town Hall at Carnegie Hall on Key Policy Issues and the Upcoming 2024 Legislative Session. On October 25th, at 6pm, Assembly Member Alex Bores will be hosting an in-person Town Hall at CUNY Graduate Center. See below for more information and registration details. Best, Liz Krueger State Senator Senator Liz Krueger's Annual Virtual Senior Resource Fair Resources for Connection, Support, and Sustainability October 24th – 26th from 2pm – 3:30pm Solo Aging: Building Community Tuesday, October 24th from 2pm - 3:30pm Many older adults in the City are solo agers, but that doesn’t mean you have to live a life alone. Learn about resources for solo agers and building community. Presentations: Resources for Solo Agers, Amy Stein-Milford, DOROT Overcoming Planning Roadblocks, Wendl Kornfeld Carnegie Hill Village, Alden Prouty Men are Solo Agers Too, Steve Gurney, Positive Aging Community Successes and Challenges of Online Dating, Dr. Nan Bauer-Maglin Caring For Caregivers Wednesday, October 25th from 2pm – 3:45pm According to AARP, there are 2.2 million family caregivers in New York State doing difficult work, often alone. Learn about the impacts caregiver burden has on your physical and mental health, and how to find support. Presentations: The Impact of Caregiver Burden, Elizabeth Fein, LCSW, Mount Sinai, and the Early Alzheimer’s Foundation Home Care and its Financial Impact, Laura Radensky, LCSW, COHME Home Care Caring for People with Dementia, CaringKind, Dante Tipiani, MSW Supported Technology, Mark Surabian, Marlene Myerson JCC Support from the Faith Community, Kate Dunn, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church Activities Caregivers and their Loved Ones Can Do Together, Robin Strashun, Search and Care, Rebecca McGinnis, the Metropolitan Museum of Art Nature and the Environment Thursday, October 26th from 2pm – 3:30pm Learn about the wonderful natural resources we have in New York City, and about caring for our urban environment and advocating for a green planet. Presentations: Enjoying Nature in the Urban Environment, iDig2Learn, Christina Delfico Bird Watching and Audubon New York, Richard Santangelo, and Lianne D’Arcy Exploring New York City Parks, Carly Sheinberg, Urban Rangers Composting, Anneliese Zausner-Mannes, Big Reuse Advocating for a Green City and A Green Planet, Monica Weiss, Third Act. You will have the option of joining the event(s) online through Zoom. You will also have the option to view the event online through Facebook. Please note that you do not need a Facebook account or profile to view the event through Facebook. Senator Krueger will discuss key policy issues and her legislative priorities for the 2024 legislative session. The Senator and her guests will cover a range of issues, including the protection of our civil liberties, the environment and climate change, as well as tenants’ rights and new housing production. Treat bags will be available for all attendees. Dress festively if you choose, or come in New York City attire, which includes basic black - always in season. Special Guests: Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney State Senator Pete Harckham, Chair, Senate Committee on Environmental Conservation Barika Williams, Executive Director of the Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development (ANHD) The event will feature a question and answer session moderated by Senator Krueger, with Alvin Bragg, State Senator Pete Harckham, and Barika Williams. *Seating* is limited.
