Honoring Akoben to Raise the Roof

It's time for our Annual Girls For A Change Community Gathering! This annual event is a cherished occasion to reflect on our accomplishments, chart our future direction, and express our deep gratitude to steadfast supporters like you.

Central to this year's event is our ambitious One Million Reasons To Build Capital Campaign ([link removed]) (1MRTB). This initiative symbolizes our enduring commitment to the empowerment of Black girls. With 1MRTB, we pledge to provide these bright young minds with the necessary tools, opportunities, and encouragement, enabling them to thrive and realize their boundless potential.

The core of our campaign is embodied in the Adinkra symbol, "Akoben." A closer look at "Akoben'' reveals "Ako," signifying "war," and “ben," denoting "to sound." This symbol signifies a state of readiness and a
call to action. More than just a war cry, Akoben represents the mental and spiritual fortitude to face life's challenges. It champions leadership, bravery, and the resolve to shape our destinies. Just as the horn's call prepares warriors for action, our 1MRTB campaign serves as our rallying cry, urging communities to champion Black girls as the influential leaders of tomorrow.

On November 3, 2023, we invite you to channel the spirit of Akoben to support Black girls in Metro Richmond. Join us, immerse yourself in our campaign's vision, and elevate Black girls, laying the foundation for a community grounded in equity and inclusivity.

** Meet our 2023 Peer Advisors

We recently announced this year's Peer Adivsors - 5 young women who will serve as role models, offering assistance and encouragement to their peers, sit on our Board of Directors, and learn about Communications as active members of our Comms team. They're getting ready to head off to California and Atlanta for a conference tour, and will be joining our Annual Gathering to network with the community and join our celebration.

We recently learned that The Justice + Joy National Collaborative ([link removed]) Girl Conference in San Francisco has been postponed. We've already made extensive arrangements, received permission for excused absences, and are committed to creating an unforgettable experience for these remarkable girls.
We invite you to be a part of this remarkable journey by contributing to our travel fund ([link removed]) . Your generous donation will directly support essential expenses such as meals, lodging, and ground transportation. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to eliminating financial barriers and making this a truly unforgettable experience for each girl involved.

Here's how your donation could make a difference:
- $50 covers a day's meals for one participant
- $100 provides ground transportation for the team for one day
- $200 supports one night of lodging for two participants
