john,

It's been 17 days since McCarthy was ousted as speaker — and Republicans are still no closer to selecting his replacement.

Right now, we're less than a month away from a government shutdown and facing major crises that require U.S. leadership in Ukraine and Israel. Still, MAGA Republicans are refusing to accept any potential speaker besides Jim Jordan — even though he doesn't have the votes to win.

Jordan has been in Congress for 16 years and has never passed a single piece of legislation, while consistently supporting an extreme and destructive agenda.

He has sponsored a bill banning abortion nationally with no exceptions, consistently voted against funding the government, voted against the PACT Act to ensure healthcare for Veterans, and voted against certifying the 2020 election. In fact, as one of Donald Trump's closest allies, he helped orchestrate the January 6 insurrection, summoning masses of Trump's supporters to protest at the Capitol!

Let's be clear – despite his record of obstruction and peddling conspiracy theories, 200 Republicans voted to make this man the speaker of the House. This is unacceptable.

This is not the time for partisan political games, john.

House Republicans have repeatedly shown they can't govern. One of their members even admitted, “We don't deserve the majority.”

At some point, congressional Republicans will realize that the only way forward is to work in a bipartisan fashion to select a speaker of the House. The only question is just how much failure and humiliation and chaos will ensue before that happens.

No matter who ends up holding the speaker's gavel, though, we need to do everything we can to take back the House next year – and that starts with winning in swing districts like WA-08.

Can I count on you to chip in $5, $25, or whatever you can afford today so we can defend this seat, reclaim the House majority in 2024, and protect our democracy?
