Over the past weeks, I’ve written about our Victorian Heritage Festival, NHS Homecomings,
Cider Mills in the area and also recognized past student athletes inducted into the Hall of Fame.
This week, as we are in the middle of the Fall season, we’ll look at the spectacular colors we’re
experiencing as our local heritage foliage changes into vibrant shades of red, yellow and
orange hues. Just one more reason Northville is designated a TREE CITY USA.
Before looking into looking into The Fall Colors in the Area… let’s see what’s
going on in “The Ville” today.
* Visit Northville’s Parmenter’s Cider Mill, Celebrating their 150^th season – Link ([link removed])

* Farmers’ Market (7 Mile/Sheldon) – Take in Northville’s 100-year-old Award-Winning Thursday Market through October. Link ([link removed])

* Maybury Farm’s Corn Maze (weekends) through October – Link ([link removed])

* Northville Historical Society’s Halloween Hysteria at Mill Race Village – 10/22, 1-5pm – Halloween Fun for the whole family! Link ([link removed])

* Northville High Football (8-0) knocked off Novi (6-2) to retain the Taft Road Jug. Showdown between two undefeated, top-ranked teams in the state happens Friday in Belleville. Mayor Turnbull and Van Buren Supervisor McNamara have challenged each other with the winner receiving a basket of local products (10/20, 7pm in Belleville). Link ([link removed])

* Northville Tree Champions Celebrate Autumn Colors (through 11/1) – Submit a photo of a stunning tree to Jim Porterfield, President of the NTC. Link ([link removed])

* Living and Learning Haunted Hallows (801 Griswold) – Experience an evening of Terror (10/18-21) or Not-So-Scary Fun for Everyone (10/21). Link ([link removed])

* Halloween House Decorating Contest – Public voting begins 10/19. Link ([link removed])

* Rotary’s Annual Goodfellows Newspaper Drive – Sale proceeds support Northville Civic Concern (11/18 during the Greens Market ([link removed]) ).

Let's now take a look at the brilliant local COLORS IN THE VILLE...
Fall is definitely here with the trees changing to spectacular hues, with the aroma of bonfires and the sweet smell of cider in the air. In this week’s letter, I would like to talk about where to enjoy the fall colors around Northville. I suggest the following:
* NORTHVILLE’S PARMENTER’S CIDER MILL – Start your color tour by stopping by one of Michigan’s oldest cider mills (on the Rouge River) surrounded by a canopy of trees, located at 714 Baseline Road. Parmenter’s is ranked as one of the best cider mills in the Metro. Watch them make that sweet-smelling nectar using local apples while enjoying the colors of the trees that surround the Mill.

* MILL RACE VILLAGE – Just down the road from Parmenter’s, experience our historic Mill Race Village (215 Griswold St) and Ford Field. Take in the local colors and admire the brilliant fall reflections off the Mill Pond & the Middle Rouge River.

* VICTORIAN HOMES AND CHAMPION TREES – Walk down Dunlap St. with its historic Victorian homes and legacy trees dating back to the mid-1800’s. Experience the history, the color of their mature landscapes and their beauty. Continue your stroll in the Ville through our various traditional burgs, including the Historic District, Cabbagetown, Bealtown, and Orchard Heights, along with some spectacular hardwoods in the Northville Estates area.

* WAYNE COUNTY’S CASS BENTON PARK – Traverse through Wayne County’s Cass Benton Park on Hines Drive that runs between Northville and Dearborn. The State’s oldest Arboretum is in our community, also on Hines Drive. Remember, it’s not the destination that’s important in life but the journey … so enjoy the colors while you go down the Parkway.
* MAYBURY STATE PARK – Another great area to visit, off Beck or 8 Mile. The Park includes close to 1000 acres of gently rolling terrain, open meadows and mature forests, giving spectacular fall bursts of colors.
* FISH HATCHERY PARK – take a scenic walk down by the river, the pond area, and the winding paths (635 Fairbrook – 7 Mile & Orchard Dr.).
* RURAL HILL CEMETERY – An additional hot spot for colors where you will find some of the oldest and most colorful trees in the area. Rural Hill Cemetery is truly spectacular and peaceful this time of year (215 W. 7 Mile/Rogers).

THIS GOES TO SHOW YOU – to see some of the state’s most fantastic bursts of colors, you don’t have to go much farther than our own back yards.
