FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Flood Awareness Week Kicks Off

Flood Awareness Week officially kicked off today in Skagit County and will run through Friday, October 20, 2023. Flooding has been a serious concern to the Skagit County community since the late 1800s, with the threat of extreme flooding generally occurring in Skagit Valley between the months of October and March.

Measures have been taken throughout the years to reduce the risk of flood damage in the valley. As a part of these preventative measures, Skagit County Public Works and the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) hold Flood Awareness Week each October to assess and implement ongoing flood preparedness. This week, DEM is offering a free webinar for community members to join and learn about flood preparedness for themselves and their families.
