I’ve been in the politics game for a long time, folks, and I honestly can’t recollect an election here in Virginia that carries more weight than our General Assembly election next month.

For the first time since 2019, all 140 seats in the General Assembly are on the ballot. 40 of them are in the Democratic-controlled Virginia Senate, where we hold a narrow 4-seat margin. A Virginia Senate where, because of our majority, we’ve stopped a slew of GOP proposals aimed at weakening voting rights, kept them from rolling back climate initiatives, and prevented them from loosening commonsense gun restrictions like repealing the red flag law.

It’s been a political stalemate in the Commonwealth. Democrats haven’t been able to get anything done because the Republican-controlled House won’t let them, and we’ve stopped them from passing legislation detrimental to Virginians. But that means if the GOP holds on to the House of Delegates and takes over our 4 seats in the Virginia Senate, there’s nothing stopping them. At all.

This election has real, tangible consequences that Virginians will face in their everyday lives.

That’s why I’m sending you one final reminder to register to vote – today’s the last day you can get it done – and make a plan to get to the polls.
