Kaine urges DOJ to probe Gov. Youngkin’s ‘purge’ of voter rolls

We’re just weeks away from one of the most important elections in my lifetime in Virginia -- and we’re just now finding out that potentially thousands of eligible voters were purged from the registration rolls.

That’s why I, alongside Sen. Mark Warner and the rest of the Virginia Democratic Congressional delegation, am urging Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate whether Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s administration violated the Voting Rights Act when it wiped fully qualified Virginia voters off the state’s rolls.

Folks, this report is alarming, especially given the consequential election already underway here in Virginia.

We’ve learned that potentially thousands of eligible Virginia voters have been removed from the rolls. This comes after Youngkin pulled VA out of a data-sharing group that Republicans and Democrats alike have relied on for the past decade to keep voter rolls accurate under pressure from election deniers.

This assault on our fundamental right to vote cannot stand. So please join me in urging the Justice Department to investigate these alarming reports of voter suppression.

This election is one of the most consequential state elections of my lifetime -- and the people of Virginia deserve to have their voice heard -- all of them.
