Eight years ago, I sat down with Elizabeth Warren to try to convince her to run for the Senate. Over a pitcher of iced tea, she asked the same questions many of our women ask when they're thinking about running for office — "How will I raise the money?" "What happens when opponents attack me or my family?" "How tough do I need to be to take this on?"

I knew then that Elizabeth Warren was exactly the kind of person we need in office.

In the end, she ran and she won, becoming the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts. And over the past eight years, we've seen her take on some of the biggest fights — battling Wall Street greed, fighting for consumers, and standing up for middle class families every step of the way.

That's why I'm proud to announce that EMILY's List is endorsing Elizabeth Warren for president of the United States.

She has run her campaign the way she has governed: with a clear vision for how to build a better America, a plan to put power in the hands of the people, and a campaign that has stood up for and lived progressive values. As she often notes, she is running for president because that's what girls do — and she has been an inspiration for women and girls across the country.

Elizabeth Warren is clearly the best candidate to unify the Democratic Party after a long primary, generate excitement across the country, and take on Donald Trump.
